series. The Rockies have yet to lose a series at home this year. Tr
The biggest surprise of Week 2 was the Buffalo Bills beating Miami 29-10. After much concern, EJ Manuel looks conservative but efficient. The Bills had only 13 first downs in the game but no fumbles and no interceptions. The kick return was a backbreaker for Miami; CJ Spiller is living up to expectations and going to be a highly paid athlete in the near future. Buffalo plays a good Chargers team at home this week, key phrase is ‘at home. The New York Giants are going to have a long year. They only had 81 rushing yards against a good Arizona defence, but they also managed 24 first downs and won the time of possession battle. It may be a good time to switch allegiances and become a Jets fan. Speaking of the Jets, calling a time out at the most inappropriate time to take a touchdown off the board can get you fired. Nothing will happen but that was unfortunate and embarrassing for the Jets. That play, and the Jordy Nelson catch, and you have Packers 31-24. Great stat for the Carolina Panthers: They have allowed 20 points or less in 15 of their last 18 regular season games. And they are 14-1 in those games. Carolina held a very good Detroit offence to only seven points, winning 24-7. Carolina is back. The Bengals may be better than anticipated. They had 472 net yards including 170 rushing. Maybe Atlantas defence isnt as good, but the Bengals offence is better than expected. That last statement however, is contingent on AJ Greens health. A toe injury is serious because it is a small weight-bearing area; at certain moments all the weight is on the toe. Major concern in Cincinnati. The Browns are a pleasant surprise after a come back in Pittsburgh and a win over New Orleans. At 0-2 the last team I would want to play is the Saints in the Super Dome. Welcome Minnesota Vikings. Speaking of the Vikings, I sense the situation with Adrian Peterson may get uglier and uglier. People have no tolerance or rationalization for abuse of children and the organization is being tarnished. They should deactivate Peterson until all is known and the truth is shown. America loves its sports but they do have a limit and this is one of those limits of tolerance. Let due process happen, but to watch Peterson play knowing this is out there is extremely uncomfortable for anyone of any level of morality. In Dallas, the Cowboys had 43 carries for 220 yards against a Tennessee team that does not have a poor defensive front seven. They play St. Louis this week that has a good front seven even without Chris Long and have a surprise performer in quarterback Austin Davis, second year out of Southern Miss, who was 22-29 for 235 yards and no interceptions last week on the road. This could be interesting for the Rams as Kurt Warner always comes to mind as a quarterback who came out of nowhere to produce excellence. And Sam Bradford may have to call a moving van soon. His cap number is huge and modern NFL football is a book balancing sport of what we can squeeze under the cap as much as the best player available. This will be interesting to watch. In Washington, RG3 now stands for three leg injuries to an exceptional athlete; this is a humbling story. About three years ago all the talk was who will be a better quarterback over the course of the career, Andrew Luck or RG3? Well, the answer is obvious and it is because of Luck. Not Andrew Luck but bad Luck for RG3. The dislocated ankle is the third leg injury to RG3 and all the stress on the legs is getting serious in terms of explosive edge and durability. RG3 has yet to get to his second contract and that is where the lifetime big money is. Finally I still have no idea what pass interference is or what it will evolve into. The penalties in the Bears/49ers were game-changing and the penalties in Eagles/Colts were game-deciding. Somehow down the road someone must set the pass interference rule in place and enforced so stringently that players adjust all the time. It can happen as two years ago the problem was vicious helmet-to-helmet shots. Not a big problem anymore. They can do the same with pass interference…Please. Carolina Hurricanes Jerseys . Blown save in the ninth inning? No problem. Custom Carolina Hurricanes Jerseys .Y. -- Sore nose and all, Sidney Crosby had a goal and three assists to help Pittsburgh beat Buffalo 5-3 on Friday night, snapping the Penguins mini-slump and slowing the Sabres late-season surge.DENVER -- Even when the San Francisco Giants pick up a rare win at Coors Field, they still lose. In this case, two pitchers -- starter Matt Cain and reliever Santiago Casilla, who both strained their right hamstrings and will undergo MRIs to determine the severity. Hunter Pence hit one of San Franciscos three solo homers and reliever Yusmeiro Petit threw three sharp innings after Cain left as the Giants beat the Colorado Rockies 5-1 on Wednesday night. "The win was great," Pence said, "but its a huge blow to lose Cain and Casilla." Pablo Sandoval and Brandon Crawford also connected for the NL West-leading Giants, who won at this hitter friendly venue for just the fifth time in 15 games dating back to last season. Cain had good command and was cruising along, not allowing a hit through three innings. Then, on his last pitch of the third, he felt a twinge in his hamstring. Casilla was hurt in the ninth inning when he tried to beat out an infield hit, falling over the bag and rolling several times on the field. He was helped to the dugout by the trainers and was replaced on the mound by Jeremy Affeldt, who finished the game. To think, just moments before in the dugout, Giants manager Bruce Bochy told Casilla to not even bother swinging -- just take it easy at the plate. "I was shocked he was running like that," Bochy said. "Guess he thought he had a hit. I dont know what got into him. Never seen him run like that." Petit (3-1) pitched effectively in Cains place as he and four other relievers limited the best offensive team in the majors to just five hits. Jhoulys Chacin (0-3) worked 5 2-3 innings and allowed three runs, including a homer to Pence in the fourth and another to Sandoval two innings later. "Two bad pitches, two homers, two runs," Chacin said. "I pitched good. We lost and thats all I care about." Crawford added a solo shot off Matt Belisle in the seventh as the Giants took the middle contest to even the three-game series. The Rockies have yet to lose a series at home this year. Trailing 5-0 in the eighth, the Rockies loaded the bases with no outs. Michael Cuddyer sent aa grounder up the middle that Crawford tracked down and scooped over to second base with his glove to start a double play.dddddddddddd Troy Tulowitzki then flew out limit the damage to only a run. Cain was settling into a rhythm when Rockies second baseman D.J. LeMahieu sent a sharp comebacker at the right-hander in the third. While the ball glanced off Cains glove, the Giants came out to check on him. Cain said after the game that had nothing to do with his hamstring injury. Earlier this season, Cain missed 13 games after he cut his right index finger while making a ham-and-cheese sandwich in the Giants clubhouse. The cut didnt require stitches. Optimistic this injury will heal fast? "Well see how tomorrow it feels," Cain said. "Still got some adrenaline going. But its calming down." Carlos Gonzalez also was banged up as he left the game as part of a double-switch in the eighth because of inflammation in his left index finger. He said he had an X-ray during the game and its not broken. "One of those things I have to deal with and get treatment every day," the slugger said. Tulowitzkis torrid hitting at home this season (.521 with eight homers) caught the attention of Giants broadcaster and former major league pitcher Mike Krukow. "Youre always skeptical -- its just the way you are as a player," Krukow said before the game. "Hes hitting as if hes getting signs. Im not accusing anybody of anything." Still, Rockies manager Walt Weiss had some fun with the assertion his shortstop is somehow stealing signs. "We have a light bulb on the scoreboard we flash. Keep an eye on Dinger (the teams mascot), hes involved," Weiss said. "We switch out the balls. Got the umpires in on it. "I love it when other teams talk about that," Weiss said. "I think its great. I think it feeds the beast." NOTES: Bochy said Buster Posey (nerve irritation in lower back) is "doing a lot better" and the catcher could be in the lineup Thursday. ... RHP Tim Hudson (4-2) will take the mound in the series finale on Thursday. The Rockies will throw LHP Jorge De La Rosa (5-3).
